This is a true extreme rarity in Roman Coinage even the British museum doesn't have one.

Die Inschrift lautet : A/ CARLUS REX - ohne R hinter REX, Von diesem Typ kommen wenige
Münzen vor , alle mit Gewicht um 1,60 g. Die REX R-Münzen sind leichter und zeitlich später: pn

No ! This interpretation is completely wrong ! Summer 391 ?!? This coin was issued in AD 190 (not 192)
  cyls 8. Feb. 2015, 12:30

What a lot of nonsense in this description. A good example of how "cut and paste" should not be used !

The photograph is of an histamenon of Isaac I Comnenus.

  xanthos 17. Jan. 2015, 22:28

It is a denarius (not an antoninianus) which is very rare.

Falsche Beschreibung: Korrekt ist Semissis, Sear 1459
  MICHAEL1956 8. Jan. 2015, 17:48

There are some areas of verdigris on the reverse which may explain why it was only graded GVF.
  MICHAEL1956 8. Jan. 2015, 17:43

The low realisation will be due to the severe edge knock between 7 and 8 o'clock on the reverse.
An edge knock of that severity should always be referred to explicitly in the description; simply marking it down to Very Fine isn't adequate.
  MICHAEL1956 8. Jan. 2015, 17:37

This medal has quite a significant edge knock at 3 o'clock obverse - presumably missed by the grader and certainly by the bidder. A cased example of this medal, graded GEF sold at the same auction for less - £850.
